The name is dedicated to Castor Durante, Italian botanist of the sixteenth-century and chief physician at the court of Pope Sixtus V. His Herbario Nuovo, published in 1585, is a description of medicinal plants in Europe and India, both East and the west. The golden dewdrops are evergreen shrubs originating in Mexico with short trunk, though they are spread over a vast American territory from the southern United States to Argentina. The flowers appear in clusters and can be white, blue, lilac or violet, hence also this plant commonly known by the name of blue flower. Its fruits, toxic in any case, give a touch of orange different from the flowers, just as the orange tree also changes from white to orange depending if it is the period to bear fruit or flowering.
