Hibiscus are malvaceae that have spread by the warm, tropical and subtropical areas worldwide. Its large genus with about 150 species accepted -and over 1000 described-, has generated multiple common names, and is prone to confusion. Thus, for an error of gender, hibiscus syriacus is called across America hollyhock of Sevilla. And hibiscus is called the one that should be known as Chinese hibiscus. The exchange and transfer of plants and seeds was always in two directions, from America to Europe and vice versa. In this regard, it is interesting to recall how New Spain, Mexico, with ports on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans in the respective cities of Veracruz and Acapulco, it was a key point of connection between Europe and Asia through Central America before the construction of the Panama Canal in early twentieth century. During the Spanish colonial period, from Mexico and its ports there was a link to the easternmost colony of Spain, the Philippines, place of origin as popular as its famous shawls brought by the Manila Galleon trade products. Bernardo de Balbuena makes a description about Mexico in the year 1604: in you Spain joins China, Italy with Japan, and finally an entire world is concerned and discipline.
