In the sixteenth century, after the prodigious circumnavigation of the globe by Magellan and Cano, the Spanish crown became involved in the exploration of the Pacific. Encouraged by the new possibility and the Inca legends that made references to some islands full of gold, the explorer Alvaro de Mendaña landing in the archipelago, where he wanted to find the Land of Ophir, the legendary mines of King Solomon. However, the treasures found were not formed by precious metals, but by a lush and diverse vegetation in this South Pacific archipelago -made up of islands, volcanoes and atolls separated by the ocean- had evolved in different ways. The Muehlenbeckia platyclados comes from the Solomon Islands.
