It is one of the types of hibiscus, in this case American, grown in the gardens of Real Alcázar. Hibiscus comes from the Greek biskos, the god with the head of an Egyptian Ibis, Tot, as told by the Greek physician and botanist Dioscorides when referring to another hibiscus, the altea. The aquatic bird called ibis, from which the name can directly derive, feeds on buds and blossoms of some of these species living in flooded areas. The species was once very common in the area of the Confederate States of America, from which derives its common name, confederate rose. The hibiscus flower is generally associated with love: in North America hibiscus symbolizes a bride of perfect beauty. Known as the one hour flower is a symbol of seizing the moment, consumed by love, and the fragile beauty.
