Pandorea jasminoides (Lindl.) K.Schum.
BignoniaceaeThis type of pandorea is a climbing plant native to Australia like jasmine referred to by its specific name, and likes sunny places and hot climates. Dense vine, of agile growth that can reach a height of over 5 meters if sustained, it is used in gardening to cover walls, pergolas or other structures, which are beautifully decorated with white flowers. In the gardens of the Real Alcázar it is also associated with date palms, growing on it and covering part of its trunk. The name Pandorea is dedicated to the woman in Greek mythology who owned the famous box that it is said to contain all the evil of man. Pandora was the wife of Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus, the civilizing hero who stole fire, the light of wisdom, to the gods to give it to men. In retaliation, Zeus, the father of the gods gave to Pandora for her wedding a mysterious box or jar with the condition not be opened under any circumstances. Zeus, along with the box, introduced another gift in the mind of Pandora, curiosity, so finally the box was opened. According to the most popular versions of the myth, all the evil of the world came out of the box and Pandora, realizing her mistake, she rushed to close the box so that in it remained the last thing you lose: Hope. Some interpretations agree that it was something else, as the name Pandora is composed of the Greek words pan, meaning ‘all’, and dora, ‘gift’. Pandora thus means the one who gives everything.
