We are at the highest point of the garden, before one of the oldest and most significant interventions of this space. We refer to the Mercury pond where the water was collected from the aqueduct of Roman origin that the Almohads rebuilt to provide water to the palaces and gardens. Its elevated position makes it one of the most strategic, functional and aesthetic elements of the building compound. From his part by gravity irrigation and we get one of the broader perspectives of these gardens, almost like a Beldevere. In this pond dominated by a statue of Mercury by Bartolomé Morell, sculptor also of the Giraldillo, Philip V listened to Farinelli until late hours of the morning, floating on a boat, trying to find relief from his illness 'melancholy'. Also in this pool is first heard the verses of the poem by Federico García Lorca to the death of the bullfighter Sánchez Mejías.
