This “Garden of the Cross” is also known as Old Cave or Labyrinth, it is between the Jardín de las Flores (Garden of the flowers), the one of the Damas (Garden of the Ladies) and the modern English garden. It is a remnant of the ancient labyrinth of the Alcázar, which plant is represented in an enigmatic ceramic next to a window of the pavilion of Charles I.
Currently there is only left the past path of the central mound, where the erratic wandering through the maze finished and represented Mount Parnassus, and now appears contextualized as an island within a perforated sheet of water where aquatic plants grow.
This is one of the most biodiverse areas of the garden, and you can find plants from all continents here.
